NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave green signal for the setting up of the “Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh.” The university would be set up in Relli village of Vizianagaram District.
Changes in the Central Universities Act
Law and Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad recently stated that the ministry would give approval to the proposed changes and pave way for the setting up the varsity at the earliest.
Objective to set up the University
In order to set up the university, the government has allocated Rs 420 crore for the first phase of setting up the Central Tribal University. MHRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar stated in his tweet that Central Tribal University at Relli, Kottavalasa Mandal, Vizianagaram district will help in the overall development of the underdeveloped region of Andhra Pradesh. The University will ensure that the tribals in the area get easy access to higher education and will also help in intensive research in the field of culture, tribal art and economy.
The university would begin functioning from academic year 2019-2020. Initially 250 students would be admitted. In the next seven years, the total number of students would increase to 4,000.
